This Biography is the result of a deep study of the man, Cardinal John Henry Newman, his struggles and his literary works. This presentation of Dr Merlyn is not just a biography, it is more like a treatise and that is why there is so much depth. Scholars and intellectuals will not only appreciate it, but will be well rewarded. Catholic historians, lovers of religious poetry and anyone interested in the nineteenth century Church will certainly find this work appealing. Through deep study and reflection Dr Merlyn has developed not only admiration for Cardinal Newman but also a great love. AS Champion of Christianity, Newman always sought the truth and longed for a spiritual renaissance. The chapters on “The Pilgrim Prayer” and “The Oxford Movement” are exciting and informative.
