Change and Continuity takes a critical look at the century-old institution of Loreto College Kolkata, which has rendered laudable service in the promotion of English education in the country, acknowledging its rich tradition and heritage on the one hand and on the other the need for transformation adaptation and innovation. The author recalls the stalwarts who shaped the academic environment and ethos of Loreto college that became a landmark in the horizon of English education in the country. It became a premier institution of higher education for girls and a symbol of western culture, etiquette, art, music and drama. As it crosses the threshold of the centenary of its existence the author cautions of the danger of sitting on the laurels of the past and calls for adaptation and innovation, to cease opportunities and keep abreast with global trends and standards to ensure its students a place in among the citizens of the new millennia.
