THE NEED FOR QUALITY AND EQUITY IN EDUCATION DURING PANDEMIC TIMES
Dr. Savita Mishra*

The current pandemic and the New Education Policy 2020 have made situations challenging and exciting to delve deep into academia to enhance efficiency, evolve, and elevate our skills. The sudden outbreak of pandemics compelled us to gruffly shift from traditional to online methods of learning, which indubitably exposed our preparedness to face critical circumstances. To fight back the disruption and damage, educational institutes across the country embraced the digital mode of education as a solution to fill the void left by classroom teaching. With this, the hitherto peripheral digital education in India is occupying the centre stage and is now increasingly getting integrated into the mainstream.

The National Education Policy, released by the Union government in July, has also emphasised the importance of online education, blended with the traditional mode. Although institutions have gone online or started blended learning, still many are stuck with deep-rooted procedures. Besides this the emphasis of technology-driven education is to alienate many children from the underprivileged sections, preventing them from continuing their studies. Even other stakeholders are struggling. Teachers are not always trained and equipped to step into the online teaching. As e-learning becomes the “new normal”, the authorities have been taking steps to make digitisation of education accessible and affordable for all. This state of affairs confronted academia globally and left educators with no option but to shift entirely into online teaching-learning. Therefore, there is a need of a robust platform to explore rich avenues to support all stakeholders across academia.

The journal New Frontiers in Education becomes a panacea to all precarious and challenging issues. The mission of the journal, the flagship journal of New Frontiers in Education Trust, is to oblige as a research aid for an assorted group of academicians, learners, and scholars who are endowed in the grounding and continued support of researchers and teachers and who can vent out their opinion and thoughts in discussions and decision-making on varied issues in the realm of teacher education. The primary objective of the journal is to make use of data from genuine research to pinpoint and report the gradually intricate concerns challenging teacher education across academia. These critical concerns comprise but are not confined to preparing scholars, researchers, pupil teachers and teachers to effectually cater to the needs of relegated students, their families, and stakeholders; course or program design and effect; the recruitment process, professional development, and retention of teachers from understated teachers; national education policy; answerability; and accreditation procedures.

The Journal mainly publishes genuine and authenticated research work. It is an internationally acclaimed journal that considers scholarly, research-based articles on all aspects of education. Furthermore, the journal aims at facilitating the global exchange of pedagogy, reforms, education theory, and contributions from researchers, communities, and cultures.

Recognized as the leading international journal on higher education studies, the journal provides a sound platform for budding and eminent researchers to publish their findings, examine educational developments at national and international educational institutions. It reports on developments in both public and private higher education sectors. The journal also encapsulates contributions from scholars globally who address the problems of students, teachers, administrators, and policymakers.

Finally, I must concede that the journal has its own distinctive features, contexts, and issues that are shared internationally by researchers, teachers, and academic leaders. This is the best platform that provides a plethora of opportunities for share and exchanges the research results, researchers’ and scholars’ experience, and insights, and provides a forum for ongoing discussion between experts.
