“I love Dreaming because in my dreams you are actually mine”

It breaks my heart when I hear innocent children, especially young girls and women are being trafficked all over the world, especially from our regions in the north east. I am equally saddened to learn that lots of young boys and teenagers lose their lives due to illicit drugs, alcohol and bad influences mostly in our communities. Now during post Covid-19 era I hear lots of young children from the rural areas have either dropped out from schools or have lost connection with their school systems.

This seems to be pretty much the norm all over the world among the underprivileged communities. I was shocked to hear that the state of California school districts in the United States (one of the most advanced systems in the world) has lost contact with almost 47% of students mostly from the rural school area.World has become a very small place, thanks to innovation and thanks to technology. When I was growing up in the Dooars way back in the early seventies, there was no electricity, no phone, no computer and of course, no internet. Calling India from Atlanta – USA where I live now, in the late 80s and early 90s used to cost a lot of money and a long waiting period for the calls to be connected by the telephone operator in the middle of night. Now in a click of a button, you can instantly talk to anyone (video calls), anywhere in the world and mostly for free of cost. World is connected beyond our imaginations, and more innovations are coming up to bridge the gap. Of course, technology has changed our lives for the better and things have improved for millions of people.

In Spite of all this progress, why do we have so many children, especially from the rural underprivileged background, left behind, trafficked and forgotten even in the country like in the United States, where resources are abundant? Career and family life get in the way for many of us when we are young, and we tend to worry mostly about our personal and family well-being. How can we create a sense of caring communities, incorporate these practices into our personal lives, teach our children those caring values, and touch someone’s life for the better from their own community or from the underprivileged community wherever they live?

I am sure most of you are already involved in your community welfare as an individual or may be as part of your Association.

There are so many opportunities where we can make a difference, and transform young lives. I look forward to become a part of the connected community (just an idea – “SAMc” for Salesian Alumni My community). If you have any noble idea, areas of interest to touch lives where we can forge alliances, please contact me at alama@tequityventure.com or call me at +1 (404) 491-7940 via whatsapp
